INEL120 X-ray powder diffractometer

Fast X-ray diffractometer for polycrystalline samples working in transmission (Debye-Scherrer) geometry. Equipped with a INEL120 linear position sensitive detector, a ceramic Cu X-ray tube powered by a 3 kW Nonius FR590 X-ray generator and a quartz monochromator that yields a monochromatic Ka1 line (lambda = 0.154056 nm). Measurements can be performed in the temperature range 90-400 K.

Sample mounting:

Fine ground samples (particle size < 150 microns, ideally 1-5 microns) should be put inside a Lindman glass capillary. Available capillary sizes: 0.10, 0.30 and 0.50 mm. For routine qualitative evaluation of mineral components, the samples are usually ground to pass through a 325 mesh sieve (45 µm). Grinding is accomplished either through hand grinding or in a mechanical grinder. A mechanical shaker with sieves is available for particle size selection.
