A note on thermal bosons

Abstract: We call attention to an alternative way of formulating the thermal boson expansion presented in a previous article. The new formulation involves a parametrization of a mean field density matrix by classical canonical variables. The thermal mean-field energy of the Lipkin model is evaluated as well as the excitation energy associated with the thermal bosons, correcting an error in the previous article. An approximation to the free energy of the model is presented, including the contribution of the thermal bosons.
